2 New Books That Are Available From Tackle Shops and AFN
For a while now I have been working on two new books for AFN and in thelast month they have now been released and they will be in your localtackle shop.

The first one is Fishing Guide to South of Sydney and to give you a bit of an insight as to what the book is about you should read on.

Introduction

For those of you that have never ventured to this beautiful part of the NSW coast it is something that you need to put in your bucket list ofthings to do? There are hundreds and hundreds of places that you can wet a line on the south coast and in this book I have put together a series of 31 maps and about 460 fishing spots to help you to explore the nearsouth coast of NSW.

Places like Bass Point, justsouth of Shellharbour. This rock finger of land is a natural gatheringground for many different species that juts out into the passingcurrents. Some of which are, snapper, bream, drummer, tailor, Australian salmon, pike, silver trevally, kingfish, bonito and groper, just toname a few.

If rock fishing is not to your liking you may like to explore the Shoalhaven River from either the shore orout of a boat. This river is southern NSW largest and most significantriver that rises between Braidwood and Araluen, flowing north and theneast for over 400 kilometres, entering the sea near Greenwell Point.

Now when it comes to lakes you may like to visit the little township ofLake Conjola that is situated just north of Ulladulla right on thecoast. The lake empties into the Tasman Sea and most of the times arecrystal clear. The lower section of the lake has extensive sand flatswhich are great for large dusky flathead, whiting and bream. LargestLake in the area almost permanently opened to the sea. However the seaentrance in dangerous and not navigable. 3 boat ramps around the lakefor access for small and large boats.

There isnothing like feeling you get when standing on a beach as the suns risesover the horizon, while the lapping waves of the surf laps at your feet. One of my favourite places to do this is at Racecourse Beach at Bawley. There is plenty on offer here for the beach and rock angler. It is aplace where you could base yourself and explore both north and south ofhere.

It has taken me a few years and plenty of blood, sweat and tears to put this fishing guide together and with its 31 maps and over 460 fishing spots I hopethat this information will also help you to expand your fishing horizons to the areas that I have fished since I was 14 and are still fishingwith my many fishing friends to this day.

The second book that AFN have released in How to Catch Australia's favourite Saltwater Fish written by me, with contributions from Geoff Wilson, Bill Classon,Nigel Webster, Leanne Payne, Andrew McGovern, Warren Keelan and BrentonHodges.

In this book I cover History, Biology,Location, Tackle and various Techniques of the following fish species.Australian salmon, tailor, bream, flathead, kingfish, leatherjacket, luderick, drummer, mulloway, snapper, trevally and whiting.

Anglapro Boats

At Anglapro we started our design process by contemplating you! What seats would you prefer to sit in, how would you like your dash laid out, what fishabilty needs do you have? From there we got started on building agood hull. So in short we built the boats backwards starting from thedriver seat and finishing with the hull. So the result is love at firstsight with the layout, then you get in and head for the horizon and itsall smiles because the boats just perform in all conditions!

They keep there hulls simple by design, no catchy names for the hull to make the boatsound tricky. They know a hull must achieve 4 main results.

  • Plane easily with minimal hole shot effort
  • Corner comfortably
  • Offer stability at rest
  • Be comfortable underway though choppy seas

Professional Fishing Instructors & Guides Association

Fishing salt water or fresh water, fly casting, lure casting or fishing withnatural bait, whatever style of fishing you like, a professional fishing guide will save you time and money in reaching your goals.

This web site will help you find an approved, accredited fishing guide orinstructor that is of only the highest standard.   PFIGA accreditedmembers  must adhere to  current Codes of Conduct and be able todemonstrate business best practice, eco-friendly/sustainable fishingpractices, adherence to OHS Acts/Standards/Regulations, customer service and expertise/ability amongst other, essential and desirable qualities.

In the late 1980's there weren't manyprofessional fishing guides in Australia, yet the fledgling industry was getting a bad reputation due to poor experiences some people werehaving with "amateur" fishing guides.

The lateMike Spry in Khancoban, along with Bill Bourke from Alexandra were theprime movers in getting together a small group of guides to form anassociation. Other founding members were John Killip, Evan Mathews, andRon Vise. One of the earliest "meetings" of the association was around a fire on the frosty banks of the Eucumbene River when the lake troutwere running upstream in early winter.

Eventually, the Australian Professional Fly Fishing Instructors and GuidesAssociation were formed in 1990 with an emphasis on fly fishing training activities. The name was changed to its present form at the 1992 Annual General Meeting when it was decided that the association would embraceall methods of recreational fishing, with guiding and instructinggetting equal emphasis.

For a few years membership of the PFIGA remained very small, until Rod Barford took over assecretary and started working hard to recruit members. The numbersincreased to nearly fifty before the severe drought during the late 90's and early 2000's began to affect participation in freshwater anglingthroughout South East Australia. As a result, a number of membersdropped out of the industry, going back to their "day jobs" in manycases.
Now, in 2010, membership is slowly creeping back up. With an influx of members specialising in Saltwater services the face of the PFIGA has evolved again and now boasts fee for service fishingguides and instructors from all around Australia.

The Accreditation provided by the PFIGA is world class and distinguishesthose that gain this accolade as the leaders in their field, coveringall aspects of business best practice, eco friendly and sustainablefishing practices, OHS and Customer Service.  A PFIGA accredited guideor fishing instructor can be trusted.

Hard Copy Volume 1 by Micah Adams

In this DVD you will find that Micah Adams demonstrates all the skills neededto catch bream, estuary perch and flathead on a range of hard bodied lures fromLucky Craft, Yamashita and Jackson.

Micah will walk you through the art of how to locate fish and them how to temptthem into striking the lure you have just presented to them. The range andversatility that these hard bodied lures have will amaze you. You can fish themon the surface and in deep water, plus everywhere in between.

There is incredible bream fishing action with surface lures, bibbed hardbodies, vibes and lipless minnows all of which will having you going to yournearest tackle shop to get a few.

You will also learn about rod tapers and types, and also in what type ofconditions they can be used. Micah will also go through the range of high techbraid and leader material from Sunline and Loomis rods.

I would suggest that you watch the DVD several times. The first timewould be just for watching the action. Once you have done that, the next timewatch how Micah explains how to work the rod tip, while at the same timecontrolling the speed that you turn the handle of the reel when working theSammy 65's and WN Pencils across the top of the water.

The DVD goes for approximately 55 minutes and I am sure that you will watch itover and over again. I have and I am still picking up small bits of informationthat will make my fishing more productive the next time I am on the water.

Berkley NanoFil

NOT A MONOFILAMENT. NOT A FLUOROCARBON. NOT A BRAID.

THE NEXT GENERATION IN FISHING LINE

In development for 6 years! The next generation in fishing line is now a reality! Nanofil revolutionisesthe fishing line industry. Not a monofilament, not a fluorocarbon and not abraid, NanoFil is our thinnest and farthest casting line ever made, making it theUltimateSpinning Reel Line.

Hundredsof stronger-than-steel Dyneema(R) Nano filaments are molecularly linked andshaped to create the world?s first uni-filament fishing line. This newgeneration of fishing line handles like a supple monofilament but with theperformance characteristics of a braid.

The superbperformance of the new line is made possible by the patented Unified FilamentTechnology jointly developed by Berkley and DSM Dyneema. The line is a roundand smooth ?uni-filament? made by this new technology, consisting of hundredsof much smaller, molecularly-linked filaments of Dyneema® which are seamlesslycombined. The result is the finest spinning reel line available, but withmaximum strength.

Berkley® NanoFil? allows foreffortless and accurate long casting with reduced drag in the air. And itsimply slices through water. As a result of its sensitivity, bending abilityand zero memory, it also provides a cleaner casting action, with fewer tanglesand knots.

NanoFil line lends itself to awide variety of techniques, but is most useful when anglers require an ultrasmall diameter line for greater casting yet also want the ultimate in sensitivity,in order to feel the subtlest of bites.

?Unified Filament Technology is aunique development which has been made possible by our partnership with DSMDyneema,? saidJan van de Bovenkamp, Senior Product Manager at Pure Fishing. ?Our cooperation has now allowedus to bring this new spinning reel line to the market.?

?It is part of our ongoingstrategy to work with key players in the various markets our customers serve,to create sustainable solutions that surpass what is already available,? added Noud Steffens, MarketingManager at DSM Dyneema. ?Likeus, Berkley has a strong commitment to innovation and we are very pleased thatour work together has resulted in the commercial launch of NanoFil.?

Dyneema® is incredibly versatile, with virtually limitless applications, not least in being 15 times strongerthan steel on a weight-for-weight basis. Its low specific gravity also makes itideal for lightweight solutions and its other key attributes include impressivechemical and UV resistance and excellent durability.

NANOFIL FEATURES

  • Our longest casting line! Anglers will experience exceptional casting distance and accuracy allowing them to cover more water and Catch More Fish!
  • Zero stretch means superb sensitivity. Now you can feel everything from the slightest pickups to jarring strikes.
  • Made with 100% Dyneema® it has an incredibly high strength/diameter ratio, this is the thinnest Berkley line yet meaning you can go lighter than ever before.
  • Zero memory virtually eliminates line tangles, which means you spend less time untangling lines and more time fishing.
  • Stays dry. NanoFil is water repellent, carrying much less water back onto the reel than braided lines. The result is improved casting as NanoFil carries minimal ?water weight?.
  • This is the ultimate spinning reel line, outstanding for a wide range of finesse techniques where long accurate casts and superb sensitivity is the key.

Over the past few weeks I have been trying out this new produce and I have found that I am actually casting further and with the small diameter of the line I am able to fill even the slightest of takes.

Another thing that I have found is that I can still use the double Uni Knot when joining on my leader, but if is a little bit harder to tie, especially when there is a bit of wind about. But to compensate that will tie the knot with my back to the wind and in close to my body.

Next time you are in your local tackle shop ask about the new Berkley NanoFil ? The new generation fishing line or go to www.purefishing.com.au  and have a look what they have in their great range of lures.

Berkley Powerbait Ripple Shad.

The Berkley Powerbait Ripple Shad features a sleek profile complete with extremely life-like details, including 3D eyes and compelling coloring. The ribs or ripples extending all the way to the bait's tail set it apart from other similar baits on the market, creating additional water disturbance and vibration as well as a larger surface area for the PowerBait scent to work its magic. The paddle tail still imparts its characteristic vibration and the classic swimming motion of a swimbait, while the Ripple Shad's thick head makes rigging easy and is perfect for holding the keeper of a Nitro jig head. The Ripple Shad also benefits from Berkley's legendary Powerbait scent infused into every bait. The Powerbait formula generates a bite when nothing else works and causes fish to hold on 18 times longer than unscented baits. Very versatile, Berkley Powerbait Ripple Shads come in 7cm, 9cm, 11cm and the giant 16cm sizes for use in all manner of situations from finesse estuary and freshwater locations to heavy estuary and offshore fishing.

POWERBAIT RIPPLE SHAD FEATURES
  • Special pulse action tail

Hard Copy Volume 2 by Micah Adams

In this DVD Micah Adams brings you the great range of lures from Lucky Craft and Yamashita while fishing at Melville Island Lodge.

You will get to see how to use vibes or lipless Crankbaits while working the deep reefs around Melville Island. Some of the fish caught were queenfish, 98cm Barra, snapper, mangrove jacks and Black Jewfish to 8kg. The two main methods were the lift and drop (hopping) or just the plain slow retrieve methods.

You will also see how effective the Luckycraft Pointer is when targeting Long Tailed Tuna while they were feeding on a huge bait ball. They also catch a few giant and pennant trevally.

The crew also ventures up a number of creeks and get amongst a variety of fish species while using the 75mm Bevi Shad, the JC deep diver. The main technique used was to slow roll the lures deep along the edges of the mangroves.

Day 3 once again has the crew up amongst the mangroves using the retrieve and twitch method while using the slender Pointer, the Yamashita Fake Baits and the 115mm Twitch Baits.

At the end of the DVD Micah Adam takes you through on a detailed journey on how to use each of the lures used and how to get the maximum results while using them.

Next time you are in your local tackle shop ask about the Hard Copy Volume 2 by Micah Adams or go to www.ejtodd.com.au and have a look what they have in their great range of lures.
